Outstanding Achievement Award: Individual

ANNUAL AWARD

The American Institute of Fishery Research Biologists makes two awards for outstanding achievement: an Individual and a Group Award. The Outstanding Achievement Awards are the highest recognition given by AIFRB to individuals and to research groups. The Individual Achievement Award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to the advancement of fishery science. This is the highest AIFRB award for achievement. Candidates are rated on the following criteria: significance of publications, exceptional service to the profession, outstanding teaching or training of students, important discoveries or inventions, and significant contributions to the advancement of fishery science.

Dayton Lee Alverson
Dayton Lee Alverson’s career as a marine biologist extends over six decades. He worked for state, federal and international agencies, and is a co-founder of Natural Resources Consultants. Dr. Alverson was the long-time Director of the Northwest and Alaska Fisheries Science Center of NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service. He is a world authority on fisheries who has published over 150 scientific papers and several books. He is also an Affiliate Professor with the University of Washington School of Marine Affairs and School of Aquatic & Fishery Sciences.

Peter Moyle
Dr. Moyle was recognized for his outstanding achievements during his career: over 160 authored and coauthored papers including The Inland Fishes of California; his teaching and mentoring of numerous graduate and undergraduate students, his excellent research in fishery science and conservation.
