The AIFRB Reception was held on August 17 and awards were given to Dr. John Magnuson, Outstanding Achievement Award; Tom Keegan, Distinguished Service Award; and Clark Hubbs Research Assistance Awards to J. Marcus Drymon, University of South Alabama (Fredin Fellowship Award) and Talia Bigelow, University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.

| Kasahara Early Career Award is presented to Dr. JAMAL MOSS, NOAA Fisheries, Alaska Fisheries Science Center, Auke Bay Laboratories. This is a new award given to recognize the Institute’s most promising scientists who, while early in their research careers, show exceptional potential for leadership at the frontiers of scientific knowledge. | W.F. Thompson Award for Best Student Paper Published in 2006 is awarded to Mary Hunsicker, a recent graduate of the Stony Brook University. Her paper is entitled "Size structured patterns of piscivory of the longfin inshore squid (Loligo pealeii) in the mid-Atlantic continental shelf ecosystem". It was published in the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, Volume 63, Number 4, pages 754-765. (AWARDS)
